Why honor women in Pennsylvania and New Jersey?
J.G. Petrucci Co., Inc. “crosses the border” as a leading design/builder in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Women throughout both regions have become a powerful force in our industry and deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts and achievements. An honoree from each state is selected to receive the Community Impact Award at the Crossing Borders event.

Why we chose the Displaced Homemakers Network of New Jersey and New Choices/New Options in Pennsylvania?
Since the event honors women for their achievements, having the proceeds benefit a woman’s charity seemed like the most appropriate fit.  We chose Displaced Homemakers Network of New Jersey and New Choices/New Options of Pennsylvania because of what the organizations offer and accomplish.  Both agencies are designed to enhance the employability and income of single parents and displaced homemakers—women who have lost their primary source of income due to divorce, separation, death, disability or active military deployment of a spouse and must therefore obtain or upgrade their skills for transition into the workforce.  Through counseling coupled with their newly acquired skills guided by Displaced Homemakers Network and New Choices/New Options program, these women gain greater confidence and economic self-sufficiency for themselves and their families.

Why support Crossing Borders?
Becoming a displaced homemaker is not something that happens to “other” people.  It affects everyone and could easily happen to you or someone you love—your mother, a sister or friend.  Imagine being a stay at home mom busy with taking care of the house and children, running the kids to football and basketball practices, dance class and swimming lessons, doing laundry, cleaning and preparing the meals.  Although having your hands full at all times, you are completely content with life as a devoted mother and housewife.  Then unexpectedly your husband tragically dies, becomes permanently disabled or decides to leave the marriage.  Suddenly, you find yourself facing life as a widow or in the middle of a divorce—your life now changed forever.  Who will provide for your children, making sure the bills get paid and food is on the table?  You will, but all you’ve known for so long is taking care of the home and family.  Not only have you been out of the workforce all this time, you have no marketable skills to offer a company.

Thanks to the ongoing support of the Displaced Homemakers Network of New Jersey and the New Choices/New Options program in Pennsylvania, women who find themselves in these life-altering situations have somewhere to turn.  They are able to learn the skills and gain the confidence necessary to “pick up the pieces” and re-enter the workplace, enabling them to provide a stable lifestyle for their children.  Through the proceeds raised by the Crossing Borders event, thousands of local women will benefit from your generosity and support.
