ALLENTOWN, PA, JUNE 29, 2010---- J.G. Petrucci Co., Inc. (JGPCO), one of the region’s most respected development and design/build organizations, has broken ground on a new 46,130 sq. ft. dealership facility for Bennett Toyota/Scion at 2121 Lehigh Street in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The site, at the eastern end of Allentown’s “Lehigh Street Auto Mile,” was formerly home to an Exide Battery plant. The new facility will include a showroom, service center, parts department, body shop and associated retail uses. Bennett Toyota/Scion has been a mainstay among Lehigh Valley automobile sales and service businesses for more than 39 years.
“Bennett Toyota has been a respected name in the Lehigh Valley Business Community for many years,” said Lehigh County Executive Donald T. Cunningham. “Everyone benefits when a former Brownfield site is put back into productive reuse.”
The brownfield property was acquired by JGPCO in December 2005 and then taken through the Act 2 voluntary clean-up process with Pennsylvania DEP. As a result, JGPCO will transform a previously environmentally impacted site into a LEED-certified building without the need for unsustainable infrastructure expansion often typical of suburban projects. The LEED-certified, state-of-the-art facility will be the first of its kind in Toyota/Scion’s Mid-Atlantic region.
Greg Rogerson, a principal with JGPCO, stated, “This is an exciting project and one that will eventually create more than 150 jobs.” He added, “This project was made possible in part through HUD loans and grants. It also provides an excellent example of what can be accomplished through public/private partnerships, in this case both municipal and federal levels of government, as well as Bennett Toyota/Scion and J.G. Petrucci Co.”
