J.G. Petrucci Company, Inc. completed an $18 million design/build dormitory expansion on Northampton Community College’s (NCC) main campus, located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The expansion included building two resident halls, a kitchen, a dining hall, and outdoor gathering areas. In addition, J.G. Petrucci added security features to service the increase in students.
While NCC already had two dorms, they did not have food services or amenities that many other schools included for students. J.G. Petrucci consulted with USA Architects, NCC faculty, and students to devise plans that met the college’s budget and needs.
Under the direction of J.G. Petrucci, the construction teams melded the earlier student housing—from 1986—to match the design of the new buildings. The new complex gives an additional 330 students the chance to live on the campus. Residents also now enjoy amenities that include dining commons with a 35-foot ceiling and panoramic views, complimentary laundry facilities, 24-hour security, and lounges.
Some additional project features included upgraded stormwater management and significant improvements to the college’s landscaping.
